  March 1961 President John F. Kennedy issued Executive Order 10925 which ma
 ndated that government contractors “take affirmative action to ensure that 
 applicants are employed\, and that employees are treated during employment\
 , without regard to their race\, creed\, color or national origin.” Since t
 hen\, affirmative action has been a central element in efforts to promote d
 iversity in higher education and the workplace. Over the years\, the streng
 th of affirmative action policies has waxed and waned\, as the legal framew
 ork of support has changed with numerous challenges over time.</p><p>In ant
 icipation of the Supreme Court’s decision in the Students for Fair Admissio
 ns’ cases against Harvard University and the University of North Carolina\,
  the American Medical Association will convene a group of thought leaders i
 n medical education and health equity to discuss the potential consequences
  of an adverse decision—and to explore new perspectives that may allow us t
 o continue the journey toward health equity and social justice.</p><p><stro
 ng>Objectives:</strong></p><p>At the end of this AMA webinar\, participants
  will be able to:</p><ul><li>Discuss how an adverse Supreme Court decision
