Claudia More no\, PhD\, Assistant Professor\, Department of Physiology and Biop hysics\, University of Washington School of Medicine
Dr. Moreno\, was born and grew up in Bogotá\, Colombia. In 2012\, Dr. Moreno received her d octoral degree in Biomedical Sciences from the National Autonomous Universi ty of Mexico (UNAM). That same year\, she joined Dr. Fernando Santana’s lab oratory at the University of Washington to start her postdoctoral training. In 2017\, she was awarded a K99-Pathway to the independence award by the N ational Institute on Aging to study the mechanisms behind the age-associate d dysfunction of the cardiac pacemaker. Dr. Moreno joined the Department of Physiology and Biophysics at the University of Washington as an Assistant Professor on April 2019\, where she leads now a team that studies many aspe cts of the function of the cardiac pacemaker\, including the mechanisms beh ind its age-associated slowdown. Dr. Moreno’s research is supported by gran ts from the American Federation for Aging Research\, the Glenn Foundation\, and more recently by an R01 from the National Heart\, Lung\, and Blood Ins titute. Dr. Moreno is also the creator and co-director of the UW Science Su mmer Program\, an outreach program that offers high school students from un derrepresented minorities and from low-income families the opportunity to e xplore science as a career path.
