Surgical or other procedures for research purposes which require anesthesia, and which are not billable as part of standard of care and are to be covered by a sponsor as part of research costs, will be charged to the PI of the research protocol.

The process for developing a price/cost for a research-related anesthesia procedure is to send an email to Our billing office will calculate the rates and reply to the requestor. The email needs to include the type of trial, procedure and an estimate of the time required for the procedure.

The billing office can pull historical data on the procedures to validate the time estimate and also look for any “typical” lines associated with the procedure.

The rates vary depending on whether the estimate is for an internal trial, government sponsored trial or industry sponsored trial; the billing office will quote the appropriate rates.
