San Salvador, El Salvador

In October 2024, Drs. Wolfson and Wirthlin, with fellow Dr. Speltz Paiz, were invited to Zacamil Hospital in San Salvador, El Salvador, to lead a hands-on clinical workshop in modern-day regional anesthesia practices for local residents and faculty. The team taught local clinicians with lectures, ultrasound practice sessions, and live patient care. This hands-on educational course was sponsored by the Surgical Outreach For the Americas (SOFA) organization and further strengthened local relationships developed by Dr. Molly McCormick, Chief of the Division of General Anesthesiology at WashU Medicine. The team was welcomed warmly and had the opportunity to learn and explore the Salvadorean medical system, culture, food, and scenery.
