Sonsonate, El Salvador

In May 2026, Erin Herrera, CRNA, and Sara Clarkson, CRNA, participated in a global health outreach trip to Sonsonate, El Salvador, through the Surgical Outreach for the Americas (SOFA), where they helped establish a new clinical site.

The team focused exclusively on hernia repair procedures, completing a total of 53 surgeries during the trip. Patients were first evaluated in a preoperative clinic setting, where they were assessed and prepared for surgery later in the week, supporting a structured and efficient care model.
