Dr. Gandhimani has been an integral member of the Department of Anesthesiology at WashU Medicine and Barnes-Jewish Hospital since 2025, when he was appointed assistant professor of anesthesiology. He brings more than two decades of experience in anesthesiology, pain medicine, regional anesthesia, clinical education, research, and healthcare leadership.

Dr. Gandhimani began his medical journey at Madurai Medical College in India, where he completed his MD and residency in anesthesiology in 2001. He subsequently moved to the United Kingdom for advanced training in anesthesiology, critical care, and pain management and has been practicing anesthesia in the UK for the next 25 years. Throughout his career, he has maintained a strong commitment to research and education, and has authored multiple publications in peer-reviewed journals.

In 2004, Dr. Gandhimani was awarded the FRCA by the Royal College of Anaesthetists. His particular interest in pain medicine and regional anesthesia led him to complete a fellowship in pain management at Birmingham Heartlands Hospital. In 2007, he was admitted as a Fellow of the Faculty of Pain Medicine of the Royal College of Anaesthetists. He subsequently continued his advanced training in pain medicine at the World Institute of Pain Medicine and was awarded the Fellowship of Interventional Pain Practice (FIPP) in 2008.

Also in 2008, Dr. Gandhimani was appointed consultant/attending in anesthesiology at Kingston Hospital, a teaching hospital in South London. Dr. Gandhimani practices clinical anesthesia and is a part of the Royal College of Anaesthetists-approved trainers in London Deanery where he trained residents , medical students and paramedics. During his tenure, he established himself as a dedicated educator, clinician, and clinical leader. He subsequently served for eight years as clinical director and head of the department, an experience that further developed his expertise in departmental leadership and healthcare management.

Recognizing the importance of strategic leadership in modern healthcare, Dr. Gandhimani completed his master’s degree in strategic leadership with distinction from London South Bank University in 2022. He was also admitted as a chartered manager by the Chartered Management Institute in London.

Despite describing himself as “by no means a fitness buff,” Dr. Gandhimani has managed to raise $6,750 for a “Back care” charity by completing the London Marathon and participating in the 100-mile RideLondon cycling event twice, in 2022 and 2023.

Dr. Gandhimani is supported by his wife, Dr. Krithiga, an IVF physician, and their two children, who are currently attending university in London.

Outside of work, Dr. Gandhimani is fond of travelling and has explored most of Europe. He also loves experimenting with multi-national cuisine, often following YouTube videos and recipes from BBC Good Food. In his spare time, he enjoys playing cricket and badminton, as well as listening to loud music.

Having worked in many hospitals throughout his career, Dr. Gandhimani is particularly impressed by the culture, work ethic and camaraderie that prevails in Barnes-Jewish Hospital. He would like to sincerely thank everyone who made him feel so welcome and all the support he has received.
