Ream Al-Hasani, PhD, is an Associate Professor in the Departments of Anesthesiology and Biochemistry. She is from Iraq but grew up in the United Kingdom where she recieved her bachelor’s degree in pharmacology and doctorate in neuropharmacology. She moved to WashU Medicine for her postdoctoral training, where she vowed to ‘just stay for a couple of years’ and has remained ever since. She was one of the first two faculty members hired in the Center of Clinical Pharmacology.

The Al-Hasani Lab studies the role of neuropeptides in substance use disorder, pain and stress. The lab’s most recent project is investigating the impact of in utero opioid exposure and prescribed treatments on long term neurodevelopment in the offspring.

Ream does not have much ‘spare’ time as her four children keep her very busy. Both her and her husband, Jordan McCall, coach elementary school sports and their weekends are filled with games for whichever sport is in season. Ream also likes to travel, cook, bake and read.

A fun fact about Ream is that she sang in her college Jazz Band and toured Poland with them!
