We are partnering with the Washington University Medical Center (WUMC) to aid in stabilizing the neighborhoods surrounding the Washington University Medical Campus.
The Holiday Outreach Program, also known as Adopt-a-Family, is an annual community outreach initiative coordinated by the Washington University Medical Center Redevelopment Corporation (WUMCRC) which creates meaningful opportunities for departments at WashU, BJC, and SLCH to help stabilize neighborhoods surrounding the medical campus by assisting families in need.
This year, we have adopted three local families with a goal of raising $10,000 to assist them with utilities, groceries, and more.
Families participating in this program reside primarily in the Forest Park Southeast and Central West End neighborhoods, and 100% of all donations given through this program will go towards assisting participating families.

Meet the Families

Family A
Family A includes a devoted single mother and her six children, ages 14, 12, 11, 11, 10, and 8. Despite facing health challenges, she remains determined to provide a stable home for her children. They currently live in a difficult housing situation affected by mold and pest issues, which has impacted their belongings and daily life. Balancing her health and her children’s needs is tough, but she continues to work toward better opportunities for her family. This holiday season, they would greatly benefit from support to help brighten their holiday and ease their path forward.

Family B
Family B is a resilient single father with three children, ages 14, 2, and 1. Currently unemployed, he is working hard to create a warm and joyful holiday season for his young family. He wishes to provide essentials like clothing, shoes, and bedding, as well as a few toys to make the holidays special for his children. Support from our community would make a meaningful difference for this family, helping them celebrate a bright and joyful holiday season.

Family C
Family C includes a dedicated single mother raising four children, ages 15, 12, 3, and 1, while balancing a part-time job. She faces the daily challenge of making ends meet but is committed to providing for her children’s needs. Although she handles all responsibilities on her own, a little extra support during the holidays would go a long way in easing her load and bringing joy to her family. This season, they would appreciate any assistance to help make the holidays a memorable and uplifting time.
How to Donate
- Make a donation through the WUMCRC’s secure portal and be sure to select “Anesthesiology” under “department or program.” We are sponsoring three families this year and by selecting “Anesthesiology,” funds raised will be equitably divided among our three families to provide groceries, clothing, and other needed supplies.
- Prefer to donate via check or cash? No problem! Please visit Charlotte Stout, located in the Northwest Tower offices, Suite 1270. Checks can be made out to WashU Medical Center and write Adopt-a-Family and “Anesthesiology” in the memo line.

Our 2024 Impact
Thanks to your generous support, last year we achieved our initial goal of $10,000 and ended up raising a total of $12,657 These funds allowed us to purchase everything on the wish lists for both families, in addition to gift cards to help pay for groceries!
Without your donations, these families would have had remarkably different holidays.
