At the 2024 Residency Graduation Ceremony, several residents were honored with special awards in recognition of their exceptional contributions. The graduating residents also selected faculty members to receive the annual Outstanding Teacher Awards.
Simon Haroutounian, PhD, MSc, chief of the Division of Clinical and Translational Research (DoCTR) and chief of Clinical Pain Research at the Washington University Pain Center, has been honored with the Preclinical Teacher of the Year award by the graduating Class of 2024.
Industry Awards
Nokomis Ramos-Gonzalez, PhD, a postdoctoral trainee at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, recently received a 2024 PhRMA Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowship in Drug Discovery. Her research focuses on developing new painkillers with fewer negative side effects.
Melissa Hector-Greene, MD, PhD, was recently awarded a Mentored Research Training Grant from the Foundation for Anesthesia Education and Research.
Jessi Cucinello-Ragland, PhD, has been named a recipient of the 2024 NIH Outstanding Scholars in Neuroscience Award Program (OSNAP).
Three researchers from the Department of Anesthesiology, Khairunisa Binte Mohamad Ibrahim, PhD, Kyle Parker, PhD, and Mitsukuni Yoshida, MD, PhD, are among the recipients of this year’s McDonnell Center for Systems Neuroscience Small Grants.
New Appointments
Justin Knittel, MD, has been appointed as the Division Chief of Trauma Anesthesiology, effective July 1, 2024.
Dr. Kathleen Bickel has joined the Department of Anesthesiology as faculty with a split appointment in the Division of Regional and Ambulatory Anesthesia and the Division of Basic Research.
Dr. Muthuraj Kanakaraj has been appointed to the role of an Anesthesiology Physician Leader in POD 5 on the Barnes-Jewish Hospital Campus.
We are delighted to introduce Andrea Rodriguez-Restrepo, MD, as the newly appointed Director of Pediatric Regional Anesthesia at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, effective July 1, 2024. This appointment will provide leadership, oversight, and strategic direction for the pediatric regional anesthesia program.
