The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) group is a dynamic, talented, and diverse team of board-certified acute care nurse practitioners (ACNPs) and physician assistants (PAs) dedicated to providing high-quality, person-centered, compassionate care.

Each quarter, we recognize one of our APPs who has gone above and beyond for their team and patients.

Congratulations to our APP of the Quarter, Megan Moseley!

Megan Moseley, PA-C, MMS, BSN
Physician Assistant

Megan Moseley is a physician assistant in Critical Care within the Department of Anesthesiology and has been with the department since 2018. She grew up in Woodbury, MN, about 10 miles outside of Saint Paul. She has a passion for providing compassionate care and is dedicated to improving patient outcomes. Megan began her educational career by earning a Bachelor of Nursing from the University of Iowa, following the steps of her mother, who was a nursing executive for over 20 years. The experiences provided as a bedside critical care nurse for eight years fueled her commitment to becoming a competent and compassionate provider. Megan decided to further expand her knowledge and skills by pursuing a Master of Medical Science in Physician Assistant Studies from Saint Louis University. She is dedicated to the latest advancements in critical care medicine and continuously improving her clinical skills. She believes in building strong patient-provider relationships based on trust, empathy, and effective communication. She now serves as a lead practice provider for her department, where she is able to contribute to the growth and development of the Advanced Practice Provider Group and to the cohesion of the department while positively impacting patient care.

In her free time, Megan enjoys spending time with her husband, Francisco, and their dog, Kona, staying active and traveling. She is a fraternal triplet with a brother and sister, and finds herself often traveling back to her home to be with her family.

Megan was named APP of the Quarter in June 2026. Here is what her nominator had to say:

“I would like to nominate Megan for her outstanding contributions and advocacy in advancing APP education and professional development within our group. Her work developing the POCUS curriculum for Critical Care APPs has created valuable opportunities to expand our knowledge, strengthen our clinical skills, and practice at the top of our scope.

Megan has demonstrated a strong commitment to ensuring our team gains the confidence needed to implement these skills in ways that directly improve patient care. She has gone above and beyond by volunteering her time to support hands-on learning—offering additional practice opportunities with patients and even making herself available outside of regular hours, including night shifts.

Her dedication, initiative, and investment in our growth are truly commendable, and she deserves recognition for the meaningful impact she continues to have on our APP group.”

Congratulations, Megan!

Kathleen Carlsen

Kathleen Carlsen, PA

Physician Assistant

Department of Anesthesiology APP of the Quarter: October 2020

Kathleen has been a Physician Assistant in the Surgical ICU at Barnes/Washington University since 2017. Originally from Sacramento, California, Kathleen lived in the Bay Area of California for six years to complete her undergraduate degree at Santa Clara University and then worked as an EMT. She then moved to St. Louis in 2014 to start her Physician Assistant program at Saint Louis University. She quickly fell in love with St. Louis and it’s Midwest feel (without the up-North winters) and began working at Washington University soon after gaining her Physician Assistant Master of Medical Science degree.

The Surgical ICU has been the perfect job for Kathleen as she loves to stay busy and work in a fast paced environment. Her co-workers are amazingly supportive and have truly become close friends. She appreciates the challenges that her patients’ present and has enjoyed occasionally working at Christian Hospital Northeast whenever needed, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Kathleen, her boyfriend (Jeremy) and Jack Russell (Maggie) live in the Central West End and love eating, drinking and playing through the city. She especially loves to spend her free time biking (road and mountain biking), golfing (poorly), going to concerts and having get-togethers with friends and family. She’s never met a party she didn’t want to host! Fun fact: even though she grew up in California, she only cheers for Michigan sports since her parents are both Michiganders. Go Blue!!

Kathleen was named the Q3 2020 APP of the Quarter because she is an excellent team player and a creative problem-solver who is dedicated to delivering high-quality patient care.
