Bethany Pennington, PharmD
Assistant Professor
Bethany Pennington is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology. She first started her career path within the Barnes-Jewish Hospital Pharmacy department in 2006, eventually specializing in critical care pharmacy. She spent many years as the rounding pharmacist specialist in the CTICU. Her clinical areas of expertise include perioperative care of surgical patients, antithrombotic and antimicrobial therapies in the critically ill, and pharmacologic management during mechanical circulatory support.
Her current research focuses on studying perioperative interventions aimed to optimize and improve patient experiences and outcomes. She also serves as a Gateway Curriculum Thread Pharmacology Co-Lead in the Office of Medical Student Education, the Multicenter Perioperative Outcomes Group Champion for Quality Improvement and Research, and a pharmacy specialist consultant for the Center for Perioperative Mental Health.
Fun facts: She and her husband opened City Park Grill in Tower Grove South in 2015. She has three children (Finley 4, Josey 3, Huck 9 months) who keep her on her toes. Mexican food and a good Peloton bootcamp workout are two of her favorite things.
