We are pleased to announce that Jeff Small, MD, assistant professor of anesthesiology at WashU Medicine, has been appointed Interim Clinical Director of General Anesthesiology at Missouri Baptist Medical Center (MBMC), effective July 1, 2026.
Working closely with Thomas J. Graetz, MD, MBA, interim chief of anesthesiology at MBMC and division chief of cardiothoracic anesthesiology at WashU Medicine, Dr. Small will provide clinical and operational leadership for general anesthesia services across the hospital’s operating rooms and procedural areas, working alongside the anesthesiologists and certified registered nurse anesthetists who together deliver that care. In addition to managing day-to-day clinical operations, Dr. Small will help foster a culture of professionalism, teamwork, innovation, and continuous learning while advancing quality initiatives and clinical standards.
Dr. Small earned his medical degree from Saint Louis University School of Medicine before completing his anesthesiology residency at Johns Hopkins Medicine. Following his training, he joined St. Luke’s Hospital, where he served as both vice chairman of the department of anesthesiology and chief of obstetric anesthesia.
He has consistently demonstrated exceptional clinical expertise, thoughtful leadership, and a collaborative approach to patient care. We are confident he will be an outstanding leader for our teams at MBMC.
