Clare Ridley, MD

Clare is an Associate Professor in the departments of Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine. Originally from Atlanta, Clare studied abroad in Rennes, France, in high school and then moved to New York to get a bachelor’s in psychology and creative writing at Columbia. After completing the Postbaccalaureate Premedical Program at Columbia, she came to WashU in 2004 for medical school and stayed on for residency. After completing fellowships in CT Anesthesiology and Critical Care at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, she joined the faculty at WashU, where her husband, Yiing Lin, is a member of the abdominal transplant surgery faculty.

Currently, Clare is the Director of Heart and Lung Transplant Anesthesiology and an Associate Medical Director of the CTICU. Her research has focused on teamwork training and safety outcomes in the CT operating rooms. In her spare time, she enjoys yoga by the window, drawing with her children, Thomas and Eleanor, and eating delicious food.

Since adapting to the COVID era, Clare is happy for her current state of health, for the ease of Zoom meetings, and is enjoying not rushing from activity to activity on the weekends, going to a park with the kids instead. Fun Fact: Clare loves to cut hair, and cuts everyone’s hair in the family.
