We are delighted to announce the appointment of Daniel Nieva, MD, as the Director of Anesthesiology for the Center for Advanced Medicine (CAM) in South County, effective July 1, 2023.
Having earned his medical degree from the University of Iowa in 2003, Dr. Nieva has since embarked on an impressive journey in the field of anesthesiology. He completed a transitional internship in the Department of Surgery at Flushing Hospital Medical Center in Queens, NY, followed by an anesthesiology residency at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in 2007. Driven by a passion for pediatric care, he further expanded his expertise by pursuing a pediatric anesthesiology fellowship at Washington University School of Medicine and St. Louis Children’s Hospital (SLCH).
Currently, Dr. Nieva is an associate professor in the Pediatric Anesthesiology Division at WashU. Since 2014, he has served as the co- medical director of perioperative and surgical services at the St. Louis Children’s Specialty Care Center (CSCC) and was instrumental in the opening of the first pediatric ambulatory surgical center in the state of Missouri in 2015. In his co- medical director role, Dr. Nieva remained instrumental in the expansion of pediatric surgical services with the opening of CSCC South County in 2021. In addition to his co-medical director responsibilities, he has recently joined the Society of Ambulatory Anesthesia (SAMBA) committees on Dental and Pediatric Anesthesia. His invaluable contributions to the pediatric anesthesiology team have significantly enhanced the quality of care provided to our ambulatory patients.
“This joint appointment between our Pediatric Anesthesiology Division and Regional and Ambulatory Anesthesiology Division highlights Dr. Nieva’s expertise and commitment to providing exceptional care,” said Dolores Njoku, MD, the Rudolph L. and Mary Frances Wise Endowed Chair in Pediatric Anesthesiology, vice chair of Anesthesiology, and anesthesiologist-in-chief at St. Louis Children’s Hospital. “Dr. Nieva brings a wealth of experience and expertise with him that will undoubtedly enhance the quality of care provided to our community.”
Please join us in extending a warm congratulations to Dr. Nieva and thanks to Dr. Branden Yee for his successful tenure as Director. We look forward to continue working closely with him in his new role.
