Dr. Holger Baumann rejoined the Department of Anesthesiology at Washington University on April 1, 2022, as faculty of the General Anesthesiology Division.
Dr. Holger Baumann graduated from the Free University in Berlin, Germany, in 1989. He went on to do an anesthesiology residency at Charite Hospital in Berlin from 1989 to 1994. A fellowship followed this in Critical Care Medicine. He worked in the following years in several major teaching hospitals in Germany and The Netherlands when he joined the Department of Anesthesiology at the University of California in San Francisco CSF in 2006. He was then appointed the first Director of Trauma Anesthesia at SFGH.
Dr. Baumann returned to Europe in 2010 to join the Department of Anesthesiology at Academic Medical Center in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. While he still has an affiliation with this center, he worked at the Department of Anesthesiology at Washington University from 2017 to 2018.
His special interests are in practicing and teaching trauma, and regional and obstetrics anesthesia.
Dr. Baumann is married with one son. His hobbies are riding his bicycle and spending time with family and friends.
