In honor of Sandy Hawes, the department has established the Sandy Hawes Award, an annual award recognizing department members who possess excellent communication skills, are supportive in nature, well-poised, dedicated, and go above and beyond the call of duty, all of which Sandy displayed during her 30+ years of employment at WashU.

Honoring the area’s leading Black medical professionals. The award was designed to encourage African Americans to pursue careers in the health care field, by highlighting local African Americans who are excelling in the field.

This prestigious award recognizes outstanding nurses who exhibit a remarkable level of dedication and proficiency in the nursing field.

The award supports a student who demonstrates leadership and professionalism during their nurse anesthesia program.

Take 2 for the Team is an initiative and app designed to promote gratitude and positivity among our anesthesiology department’s team members.

The Young Alumni Award is presented in recognition of exemplary dedication to the profession of nursing to individuals who have demonstrated a commitment to nursing education, research and/or service in the first 10 years of their nursing career post-baccalaureate.
