We are pleased to announce Patrick Givens and Elizabeth Schappe as the Lead CRNAs for the Sunset Hills Surgery Center. Both Patrick and Elizabeth bring extensive clinical expertise, leadership experience, and a strong commitment to excellence to these roles. They will work closely with Dr. Dan Fernandez to build a center of excellence from the ground up and establish a strong culture of clinical excellence, collaboration, and teamwork.
Patrick Givens joined the Department of Anesthesiology in July 2008 and has spent over 10 years as a core member of POD 2, building strong relationships across the surgical and anesthesia team and becoming a go-to clinical resource for providers at all experience levels. Patrick recently retired from the U.S. Army Reserves after serving 21 years and several deployments. During his military service he was recognized for leadership in planning medical support for a multinational training exercise as well as volunteer service with the Scouting program. Patrick looks forward to new challenges ahead and remains committed to upholding the highest standards of clinical practice for the team.
Elizabeth Schappe joined the Department of Anesthesiology in January 2017 and has been consistently recognized as an excellent provider and colleague. She took on her first leadership role as CRNA Team Lead in the Parkview Tower, contributing to initiatives like streamlining blood delivery to the PACU and implementing quantitative TOF monitoring with TwitchView. She also co-chaired the department’s Sustainability Group, helping drive provider education and projects such as the shift from nitrous oxide pipelines to tanks and a low-flow anesthesia initiative. As a Wellness Champion, she continues to support the well-being and success of her colleagues. Her contributions have been recognized with the 2022 Beverly Krause Outstanding CRNA Clinical Instructor Award and the 2023 St. Louis Magazine Excellence in Nursing Award – Advanced Practice.
We are excited to have Patrick and Elizabeth leading this new endeavor and look forward to the expertise, energy, and leadership they will bring to the Sunset Hills Surgery Center. Please join us in congratulating them on their new roles!
