Lukas Matern, MD
Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology

Lukas is a faculty anesthesiologist and intensivist at WashU Medicine. His practice spans surgical and medical critical care as well as general adult anesthesiology. While his current home base is the surgical, burn, and trauma intensive care unit, he also serves clinically as the Physician Leader for Non-Operating Room Anesthesia (NORA) and maintains a strong interest in multidisciplinary care in the main operating rooms. Strongly committed to education, Lukas is engaged in a variety of department initiatives centered on learner development, most recently assisting in the design and execution of critical care simulation exercises. He is particularly passionate about effective clinical teaching and formative assessment, recognizing these as drivers of excellence in medical training.
Lukas grew up in the Midwest but came to St. Louis via Boston. He completed his anesthesiology and critical care medicine training at the Massachusetts General Hospital, where he was chief resident and served as a member of the thoracic anesthesiology group prior to relocating.
In his past life as a conservatory-level cellist prior to entering medicine, Lukas performed chamber works by Schubert, Mendelssohn, and Brahms at Carnegie Hall. He and his partner (a saxophonist) remain regulars at St. Louis Symphony Orchestra concerts, chamber music recitals, and local jazz venues.
Amanda Matysik, ACNP
Nurse Practitioner

Amanda is an acute care nurse practitioner in the Department of Anesthesiology with the Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Group at WashU Medicine. Before this, she obtained her Bachelor of Nursing at Texas A&M. She spent nine years at the bedside at Mercy Hospital as a registered nurse and then went on to obtain her master's degree at SLU. She is now entering her 18th year of critical care medicine and functions as a provider in the 44ICU, 78ICU and Christian Hospital ICU. There, she is assessing, diagnosing, and treating patients while performing procedures and working besides a team of wonderful colleagues.
Outside of work, she enjoys vacationing, watching sports and exercising while in the company of her wife of 11 years, a 7 year old daughter, and 2 Australian Shepherd puppies.
Jordan McCall, PhD, MPH
Associate Professor, Anesthesiology

Jordan McCall, PhD, MPH is an associate professor in the Department of Anesthesiology and the Center for Clinical Pharmacology at the University of Health Sciences & Pharmacy in St. Louis and WashU Medicine. Jordan leads a multidisciplinary research program aimed at understanding the neural mechanisms underlying the emotional distress associated with stress, chronic pain, and addiction. The long-term goal of the laboratory is to take basic, circuit-level neuroscience research on the noradrenergic system and apply these findings to advance therapeutic options for patients. In practice, this goal is achieved through the development of new neural interfacing technologies through collaborative efforts with materials scientists, chemical and electrical engineers, mathematicians, computer scientists, and clinicians.
In addition to his research role, Jordan co-directs a new Keystone Integrated Science Course for the medical school called "Science, Medicine and Societal Effects of Pain" which integrates basic, preclinical pain science with practical experiences in the clinical treatment of pain.
Outside of work, Jordan enjoys quieting his mind by swimming laps and attempting to quiet his home by chasing his three young kids.
Kenya McKinney, CRNA

Kenya was born in St. Louis, Missouri. She grew up in the Ferguson area and graduated early from McCluer High School.
Inspired by her mother, Kenya enrolled herself into a practical nursing program and became the school's youngest graduate. She discovered her purpose in nursing and found it extremely gratifying. She continued on attaining her BSN from Webster University and MSN from Goldfarb School of Nursing.
Prior to being accepted into the Goldfarb nurse anesthesia program in 2009, she worked for Saint Louis University as a neurosurgery ICU nurse. Soon after starting at Goldfarb, she set her sights on joining the Department of Anesthesiology, which she did in the spring of 2013.

Kyle McLafferty, PA-C

Kyle was born and raised in north St. Louis County before attending the University of Missouri in Columbia for a bachelor's degree in biology and master's in medical sciences - Physician Assistant at the University of Missouri in Kansas City. Following his graduation, he joined the department and has been working as a PA at Christian Hospital in the ICU. "I cannot overstate how fortunate I am to work with such a great team in an area of the city that I've called home since I was born." Kyle looks forward to continuing to grow within the department while serving his patients and beginning to precept/teach others. When not at work, Kyle enjoys spending time in the outdoors with his beautiful and supportive wife Cara and their amazing daughter Raelyn. They are currently expecting their second child.
Meredith McLaughlin

Meredith joined the Department of Anesthesiology, and Washington University, in January 2022. Hired as an executive secretary, she supports the Vice Chair of Pediatric Anesthesiology and the Division Chief of Perioperative Medicine. Prior to coming to Washington University, she worked as an executive assistant at Saint Louis University, and as an archaeologist for a private St. Louis firm (ask her about some of her favorite digs!). She has immensely enjoyed her time at Washington University thus far, and is looking forward to working on future projects.
Outside of work, Meredith enjoys seeing live music, bird watching with her husband, Kevin, and hanging out with her Green Cheek Conure, Zuzu.
Brennan McMillan, MD

Brennan grew up in Colorado, just outside of Boulder, and attended the University of Colorado Boulder where he double majored in Biology and Neuroscience. He went to medical school at Albany Medical College in Albany, New York, where he met his fiancée, Nataly, and plans to get married in South Carolina this October. Brennan recently had a case report published alongside Dr. Cosgrove in Anesthesia Reports that discusses McArdle disease causing rhabdomyolysis following vaginal delivery. He enjoys playing indoor soccer and going on hikes at Babler State Park with their dog, Indy. He is also an avid board game player and looks forward to the upcoming board game convention, Geekway to the West.

Jordan has been a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) for the Department of Anesthesiology for one year.
An only child, Jordan grew up in the small town of Hartford, Illinois. Through the help of her dedicated mother and scholarship organizations, she was afforded the opportunity to go away for college. She graduated with her first undergraduate degree in health science from the University of Missouri at Columbia (go tigers!), and returned to St. Louis to complete the accelerated nursing program at Goldfarb School of Nursing at Barnes-Jewish College, receiving her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Jordan considers herself to be "Barnes-raised" as she began her career at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in 2016 as a student nurse technician in the Cardiac ICU, continuing on to work as a nurse in the same unit. Completing her nurse anesthesia training at Goldfarb School of Nursing at Barnes-Jewish College in 2021, she continued on as a CRNA with the Department of Anesthesia after graduating where she now works in the general division, floating to all of the pods on both south and north campuses at BJH. She feels very fortunate to continue to work, learn, and grow within the hospital and among the colleagues that raised her.
Jordan is engaged to her fiancé, James, who she met at Mizzou during their sophomore year. They are getting married in September of 2023! Jordan and James live in Webster Groves with their two pets, Copper the goldendoodle and Ruthie the ragdoll cat. When not working, you can most likely find Jordan at a Mexican restaurant or spending time with her friends and family. She enjoys taking her dog on walks around the neighborhood, frequently stopping at The Annex, as it’s become one of her favorite spots since moving to Webster last summer. "If you try it, I highly reccomend the breakfast burrito — you wont be disappointed," she says.
Katie McPhillips, CRNA

Katie received her master’s degree from Goldfarb School of Nursing and is currently a CRNA at St. Louis Children’s Hospital. She grew up in St. Louis and has traveled the world, visiting more than 40 countries over the span of a year and a half. Katie is married with four children Paige, Allison, Ronin, and "Bogey" and she enjoys tennis, watching football, running, and travel.
Divya Mehta, MD

Divya is a CA-II resident in the Department of Anesthesiology. She completed her medical school and anesthesiology training in India before moving to St. Louis. Prior to joining the team as a resident, she worked as a post-doctoral research associate in the Anesthesiology Control Tower (ACT). She considers herself very fortunate to have been given the opportunity to train here as well as having mentors who are interested in her professional and personal growth.
Apart from working in the operating rooms, she has a passion for research and wants to pursue a career in academic anesthesiology after residency. While her whole family is back in India, she lives in St Louis with her husband. In her spare time, she likes reading fiction, doing home improvement projects, and going on walks with her husband. She is excited to go to India this fall for her sister’s wedding!
