After a rigorous local and national search process, the Division of Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology is pleased to announce Hawa Abubakar, MBBS, has been selected as associate director for the Adult Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology (ACTA) Fellowship. Dr. Abubakar will join Dr. Emmert in recruitment, education, and mentoring ACTA fellows. Dr. Abubakar has demonstrated an excellent track record in education, scholarship and compassionate clinical care; she will be a fantastic addition to the educational endeavors of the CT Division and department broadly.
Dr. Abubakar is an assistant professor of anesthesiology. She received her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degrees from University College in London. She completed residency in anesthesiology at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, including serving as chief resident. Dr. Abubakar completed dual fellowship training in Critical Care Medicine and Adult Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. Dr. Abubakar works clinically in the cardiothoracic operating rooms and intensive care units at both Barnes-Jewish Hospital and our community hospitals.
