The Department of Anesthesiology at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis continues to rank among the very best in the U.S., ranking 6th for “Best Anesthesiology Programs” by U.S. News & World Report. This year’s ranking is up two positions from 8th last year. In addition, the School of Medicine ranked #6th in the Best Medical Schools: Research category.
“I am thrilled to see WashU’s anesthesiology program continue to ascend in the U.S. News & World Report,” said the Director of Anesthesiology Education, Douglas Thompson, MD, who also serves as the residency program director. “This reflects the many strengths of our program and department.”
“We offer exceptional clinical training, with a breadth of cases that ensure our residents will never be unprepared when they finish residency, and we do this in the setting of an academic center that is consistently a leader within the field of research,” Thompson said. “These are testaments to the ongoing commitment from our departmental leadership to be innovative and forward-thinking.”
Earlier this year, the department’s $13.2 million in NIH funding ranked 4th nationwide among anesthesiology departments in funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Seven department faculty ranked in the top 100 for total NIH funding to individual anesthesia principal investigators.
