Dr. Sunny Lou has been awarded the 2022 International Anesthesia Research Society (IARS) Mentored Research Award for her project “Intelligent Clinical Decision Support for Perioperative Blood Management.”
Bernadette Henrichs, PhD, CRNA, CCRN, CHSE, FAANA, received the 43rd Helen Lamb Outstanding Educator Award from the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA) for her significant contributions to the education of nurse anesthetists.
Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology, Jessica J. Justmann, MD, and Robert A. Swarm, MD, professor of anesthesiology at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis were recently recognized as Top Pain Medicine Doctors for 2022 by Castle Connolly.
Every year, as the fourth-year residency class graduates, the Department of Anesthesiology likes to celebrate a select few residents who have made extraordinary accomplishments throughout the year. The graduating class also nominated a faculty member who has made the biggest impact on their clinical training for the annual outstanding teacher award.

The Perioperative Blood Management Project—led by WashU anesthesiologists, Megan Dewey, MD, and Sunny Lou, MD, PhD—was selected as the winner for the 2021 Team Award for Quality Improvement from BJC HealthCare for its success in reducing blood product waste in the operating rooms.

In honor of Sandy Hawes, a beloved friend and dedicated member of the Department of Anesthesiology, the department has established the Sandy Hawes Memorial Award, an annual award recognizing department members who possess excellent communication skills, are supportive in nature, well-poised, dedicated, and go above and beyond the call of duty.
The Fellows of AMIA (FAMIA) is a recognition program for applied informatics recognizing the contributions and professional accomplishments of AMIA members who apply informatics skills and knowledge to their practice (clinical, public or population health, or research).
