Celebrating Dr. Markowitz’s contributions as he departs

We thank Dr. Markowitz for his valuable contributions as a leader and appreciate that he is leaving the PDDEI/W office in such great hands with a successful handoff to three outstanding and experienced leaders. We have enjoyed and benefitted immensely from his time in the department and wish him all the best in his next adventure.    

Inaugural Associate Vice-Chair for Faculty and Educator Development

We are excited to announce the Department of Anesthesiology’s inaugural Associate Vice-Chair for Faculty and Educator Development, Rachel Moquin, EdD. This appointment recognizes Dr. Moquin’s senior leadership role, her unmatched expertise, and her countless department contributions to date.

Mimicking exercise with a pill (Links to an external site)

Associate Professor, Bahaa Elgendy, PhD, and his colleagues are working to recapitulate the benefits of exercise with a pill. This discovery could lead to a new way to treat muscle atrophy and other medical conditions in people, including heart failure and neurodegenerative disease.

APP Leadership Announcement

We are excited to announce the appointment of Trish Wilkinson, ACNP-BC, as the Director of APP Clinical Operations within the Division of Critical Care Medicine in the Department of Anesthesiology. In tandem, we are pleased to also announce Sarah Cooley, AGACNP-BC, and Shawn Reynolds, MS, MSPAS, PA-C, EMCAQ, as Co-Assistant APP Directors.

Revolutionizing Clinical Pain Research: A Shift Toward Patient-centered Engagement (Links to an external site)

The Initiative on Methods, Measurement, and Pain Assessment in Clinical Trials (IMMPACT), including Simon Haroutounian, PhD, MSc, and Katie Holzer, PhD, LCSW, brought together a diverse group of participants from academia, industry, funding and regulatory agencies, and people with lived experience (PWLE) of pain, to developed recommendations for advancing patient engagement in clinical pain research.
