Leader as Coach(Frontline Manager Workshop)

Course Description:
Coaching as a practice has been growing in popularity in recent years, but what could that mean for managers? How can those of us who supervise others leverage coaching skills to be more effective in our work with others? And what are coaching skills anyways? Come to this session to learn how to apply listening skills, active inquiry skills, and thoughtfully worded questions to better support your team.

Course Objectives:
By the end of this session, participants will be able to describe the purpose, benefit, and scope of coaching. They will be able to perform active listening skills in management conversations and practice active inquiry and curiosity in one-to-one conversations. Learners will also be able to ask thoughtfully worded questions to encourage reflection and growth in others as well as identify scenarios to engage coaching skills within the scope of the organization or teams they oversee. Finally, participants will be able to determine opportunities to further develop coaching skills to apply within the scope of their role.

Target Audience: This workshop is for all Washington University in St. Louis staff who serve as people managers and supervisors.
