Lesley Rao, MD, appointed Associate Division Chief of Pain Management

We are delighted and (in keeping with the season) most thankful to announce that Lesley Rao, MD, has accepted the position of Associate Division Chief of Pain Management. In this role, she will work in collaboration with hospital and departmental leaders, as well as with pain division faculty, to further the Pain Management Division’s contributions to the missions of the Washington University Pain Center: the alleviation of human suffering from pain through the integration of basic and clinical pain research, pain education, and clinical pain management practice.
 
Dr. Rao, a graduate of Saint Louis University School of Medicine, completed Anesthesiology Residency and Pain Medicine Fellowship at Washington University before joining the Anesthesiology Department faculty in 2010. She is Associate Professor of Anesthesiology and has been an outstanding member of our department. She is a superb clinician and is especially recognized for her work in spine-related musculoskeletal pain and the interventional management of cancer pain while complimenting pain clinical practice with ongoing work as an operating room anesthesiologist. Dr. Rao will be continuing in her role as Pain Fellowship Program Director in which she has developed remarkable skills as an educational leader and mentor. Her scholarly and educational presentations and writings are superb, reflecting the outstanding knowledge, skill, and compassion that characterize all of her work in Pain Management, Anesthesiology. Dr. Rao’s contributions have been of remarkable benefit to the Pain Management Division, Department of Anesthesiology, and our broader community. We are indeed fortunate to have Dr. Rao as one of our departmental leaders and colleagues.
