1. Can you describe your overall experience in the International Program for Anesthesiology Specialists at WashU

My experience in the International Program for Anesthesiology Specialists at WashU has been incredibly rewarding. The program offered a solid foundation that supported my progression from Clinical Instructor to Clinical Professor and guided me through the 4-year ABA Alternate Entry Pathway. The department is distinguished by its outstanding educators, researchers, and mentors who foster a culture of collaboration and support. This environment, coupled with diverse perspectives and opportunities to engage in workshops and conferences, has greatly enriched my professional journey.

2. How did the program help you grow professionally and personally?

The program significantly advanced my career by supporting my journey through the ABA Alternate Entry Pathway and enabling me to take on leadership roles, such as Perioperative Department Co-Lead and Director of Obstetric Anesthesiology for IV-year medical student electives. The supportive and diverse environment helped me develop as an educator, leading to recognition as a Master Interprofessional Educator and earning the outstanding teacher award. Personally, the program reinforced my commitment to mentorship and continuous learning.

3. Did the mentorship and support you received impact your career development? If so, how?

The mentorship and support I received were crucial to my career advancement. The guidance from experienced mentors helped me navigate the ABA Alternate Entry Pathway and progress to Clinical Professor. The department’s collaborative culture and commitment to excellence in teaching and research played a significant role in my development as an educator, culminating in my recognition as the best clinical educator and a Master Interprofessional Educator.

4. Can you share a memorable moment or experience during your time in the program?

A truly impactful moment during my time in the program was when I was promoted to Clinical Professor of Anesthesiology. This achievement represented the culmination of years of dedication, supported by mentorship provided by the program. It was a proud moment that validated my commitment to advancing both my clinical practice and my role as an educator.

Equally significant was the completion of the 4-year ABA Alternate Entry Pathway, a challenging endeavor that required perseverance and a deep commitment to professional growth. This milestone not only enhanced my clinical expertise but also positioned me to take on greater leadership responsibilities within the department.

Being awarded the Outstanding Teacher Award was another highlight. It was an honor that reflected my dedication to education and mentorship, and it reinforced my passion for teaching. This recognition by my peers and students was profoundly rewarding, as it affirmed my impact on the next generation of anesthesiologists.

These experiences—my promotion, completing the ABA Pathway, and receiving the Outstanding Teacher Award—were defining moments in my career, each marking a step forward in my journey as a clinician, educator, and leader in anesthesiology.
