The Department of Anesthesiology at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis has a reputation for preparing its trainees to become future leaders in clinical and academic anesthesia and to thrive anywhere in the world after residency.

Earlier this month, Doximity, an online network for medical professionals, released its 2021-2022 Residency Navigator tool and ranked WashU’s anesthesiology residency program among the top ten training programs in its specialty, coming in at #9 nationally, #2 regionally (Midwest), and #1 in Missouri.

“I am very proud that our department’s commitment to excellence in training continues to be recognized on a national level and allows us to recruit top candidates from around the globe,” said Douglas Thompson, MD, Vice-Chair for Education in the Department of Anesthesiology.

“When residents complete their clinical anesthesia training at WashU, there is nothing they would see out in the community – or at other large academic centers – that they would not have already seen here,” Dr. Thompson continued.

Doximity rankings are released each year via their Residency Navigator tool. This tool aims to help applicants make informed decisions when reviewing residency programs across 28 specialties. The Residency Navigator offers a transparent look into U.S. medical residency programs, powered by peer nominations, ratings, and hand-written reviews.
