Announcing our 2024-2025 Chief Residents 

We are delighted to announce and introduce our Chief Residents for the 2024-25 academic year: Karam Atli, MD, Ryan DeAngelis, MD, and Parita Sutaria Jani, MD. These exceptional individuals were selected through a vote by their resident peers and faculty. We extend our sincere congratulations to them, acknowledging the caliber of all candidates who participated in this year’s selection process.

Meet the Chief Residents

Karam Atli, MD, MS

Dr. Karam Atli earned a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Biological Sciences from Florida Atlantic University, a Master of Science (MS) in Biotechnology with a concentration in Biodefense and certificate in National Security Studies from Johns Hopkins University, and a Doctor of Medicine (MD) from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. Her research focuses on postoperative delirium and studying the relationship between perioperative management and cognition. She plans to pursue a fellowship in adult cardiothoracic anesthesiology following her residency. 

Ryan DeAngelis, MD

Dr. Ryan DeAngelis earned a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Neuroscience with a minor in Philosophy from the University of Michigan, and a Doctor of Medicine (MD) from the Medical College of Wisconsin. His interests include resident wellness and echocardiography. He plans to pursue a cardiothoracic anesthesiology fellowship following his residency.

Parita Sutaria Jani, MD, MPH

Dr. Parita Jani earned her Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Philosophy, Master of Public Health (MPH) with a concentration in Health Policy and Organization, and Doctor of Medicine (MD) from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Her interests include quality improvement and medical education, and she plans to pursue a fellowship in cardiothoracic anesthesiology following her residency.

Assuming the role of chief resident demands a precise balancing act, and we have every confidence that Drs. Atli, DeAngelis, and Jani will excel in this capacity in the upcoming academic year. They are prepared to lead our residency training program with determination and integrity, and we look forward to witnessing the impact they have on the growth and success of our residents.
