The department is pleased to announce the appointment of Colby Parks, MD, as associate professor and the new Director of Anesthesiology for the Washington University and Barnes-Jewish Orthopedic Center in Chesterfield (OC). Dr. Parks will officially take on this role effective January 6, 2025, bringing with him a wealth of experience and a commitment to excellence in patient care and medical education.
“Dr. Parks brings extensive experience from both academic and private practice,” said Michael S. Avidan, MBBCh, Dr. Seymour and Rose T. Brown Professor of Anesthesiology and head of the Department of Anesthesiology at WashU Medicine. “He is an impressive leader who will certainly enrich our department and contribute to all of our missions.”
Parks completed his bachelor’s degree in chemistry at Rockhurst University before earning his medical degree from Saint Louis University School of Medicine. He then pursued a residency in anesthesiology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and further specialized in regional anesthesia and acute pain through a fellowship at the same institution. Since completing his training, Dr. Parks has held various prominent clinical appointments. He is currently the Acting Chief of Anesthesia at St. Luke’s Hospital in St. Louis, and previously he served in academic medicine as an assistant professor of anesthesiology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Medicine.
Dr. Parks’ extensive background in clinical care, combined with his leadership experience, makes him an ideal fit for this vital role at the Orthopedic Center. He is dedicated to fostering an environment of collaboration, innovation, and safety, and to ensuring the highest standards of care for our patients.
