Marissa Caruso, AGACNP

Department of Anesthesiology Featured Member: July 2026

Marissa started her journey at Barnes-Jewish Hospital (BJH) in 2017 as a bedside nurse in the Cardiothoracic ICU.  She earned her MSN-NP in Adult-Gerontological Acute Care from SLU in 2020 and began working as an advanced practice provider in the Surgical ICU.  She now works primarily in the Cardiothoracic ICU at BJH and Missouri Baptist.

In her free time, Marissa enjoys cooking, traveling, home improvement projects, and spending time with her friends, husband, and cats (Schmidt and Cece).

Department of Anesthesiology Featured Member: October 2023

Shea Carver is a resident physician in the Department of Anesthesiology at WashU. She grew up on a farm in the Flint Hills of Kansas and first became interested in medicine while shadowing a physician in her hometown’s rural primary care clinic. She graduated from Newman University and completed medical school at the University of Kansas School of Medicine in Kansas City. Her partner is also a resident physician in the Department of Emergency Medicine. Shea and her partner enjoy going to the dog park with their husky, antique hunting, trying new restaurants, and exploring St. Louis. A fun fact about Shea — she is a former FFA state champion in dairy cattle judging!

Nichole Cassell

Department of Anesthesiology APP of the Quarter: October 2021

Nicole joined the department in 2013 after graduating from Goldfarb School of Nursing as an Acute Care Nurse practitioner. Nicole is currently the lead APP at Christian Hospital Northeast ICU. Outside of work, she enjoys home improvement projects, gardening, hiking, and spending time with her son, Blake, and daughter, Taylor.

Nicole was named the Q3 2021 APP of the Quarter for her dedication, resourcefulness, and support of her fellow colleagues. Congratulations, Nicole!

Marie-Lisette Chapman, MSN, AGAC-NP

Nurse Practitioner

Department of Anesthesiology Featured Member: May 2026

Marie-Lisette “Sette” Chapman, MSN, AGAC-NP, has been a member of the Surgical Critical Care APP team since 2023. In her role as a nurse practitioner, she provides care to critically ill patients and supports the ongoing success of the critical care service. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Spanish and International Health with a focus in healthcare administration (2012) and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (2014) from Clemson University, followed by a Master of Science in Nursing at Duke University in 2023. Prior to becoming a nurse practitioner, she gained nearly ten years of experience in surgical and critical care nursing.

Since joining the group, Marie-Lisette has served as a preceptor for new hires and nurse practitioner students. She is passionate about education, mentorship, and fostering a supportive learning environment, and she enjoys helping others develop the same enthusiasm for critical care that inspires her work.

Outside of the hospital, Marie-Lisette enjoys baking sourdough, traveling, discovering new and delicious food, reading, crafting, and spending time with her husband and their pups. She is also a devoted Harry Potter fan.
