Department of Anesthesiology APP of the Quarter: October 2021

Nicole joined the department in 2013 after graduating from Goldfarb School of Nursing as an Acute Care Nurse practitioner. Nicole is currently the lead APP at Christian Hospital Northeast ICU. Outside of work, she enjoys home improvement projects, gardening, hiking, and spending time with her son, Blake, and daughter, Taylor.

Nicole was named the Q3 2021 APP of the Quarter for her dedication, resourcefulness, and support of her fellow colleagues. Congratulations, Nicole!

Nurse Practitioner

Department of Anesthesiology Featured Member: May 2026

Marie-Lisette “Sette” Chapman, MSN, AGAC-NP, has been a member of the Surgical Critical Care APP team since 2023. In her role as a nurse practitioner, she provides care to critically ill patients and supports the ongoing success of the critical care service. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Spanish and International Health with a focus in healthcare administration (2012) and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (2014) from Clemson University, followed by a Master of Science in Nursing at Duke University in 2023. Prior to becoming a nurse practitioner, she gained nearly ten years of experience in surgical and critical care nursing.

Since joining the group, Marie-Lisette has served as a preceptor for new hires and nurse practitioner students. She is passionate about education, mentorship, and fostering a supportive learning environment, and she enjoys helping others develop the same enthusiasm for critical care that inspires her work.

Outside of the hospital, Marie-Lisette enjoys baking sourdough, traveling, discovering new and delicious food, reading, crafting, and spending time with her husband and their pups. She is also a devoted Harry Potter fan.

Department of Anesthesiology Featured Member: February 2021

Zi-Wei Chen is a research assistant professor in the Division of Basic Research. She was born in China and got her PhD in Peking University. She had her postdoc training in University of California, Los Angeles. She then moved to St. Louis and joined Dr. Alex Evers’ lab in 2007.

Ziwei has been enjoying the active and collaborative research environment at Washington University. Her major research interests are to characterize anesthetics binding sites in central nervous systems.

Outside of work, Zi-Wei loves cooking and spending time with her two children.

Department of Anesthesiology Featured Member: November 2019

Wayland is an assistant professor in the Department of Anesthesiology and a cardiothoracic anesthesiologist. His laboratory seeks to understand the molecular mechanisms underlying lipid and anesthetic modulation of pentameric ligand-gated ion channels. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his wife and three children and playing hockey and golf.
