For over 25 years, the International Program for Anesthesiology Specialists (IPAS) at WashU Medicine has trained 65 WUDA international specialists, creating an impressive legacy of success. Our alumni include four department chairs, two vice chairs for research and quality improvement, and four unit leaders, directors, and division chiefs, with many also receiving multiple Teacher of the Year awards. A truly impactful moment during my time in the program was when I was promoted to Clinical Professor of Anesthesiology. This achievement represented the culmination of years of dedication, supported by mentorship provided by the program. It was a proud moment that validated my commitment to advancing both my clinical practice and my role as an educator.
It is always superb to observe that you are capable of practicing at a very sophisticated environment and your work is approved by your peers. I felt the support of my network during my professional growth.
Being in interaction with fellows, residents, medical students and SRNAs all the time has been incredibly fulfilling as I am in love with learning and teaching. Our valued, respectful, and unselfish relationships within the department have also been priceless and very helpful to adjust quickly in the beginning.
