Our goal is to provide a transparent, equitable, and expedient process for all Department of Anesthesiology team members to access clinical data for research, quality improvement, or operational endeavors. We achieve this goal by reviewing and providing tailored guidance on new and ongoing data requests, and navigate regulatory, technical, and practical obstacles.

Before submitting a project, identify whether it qualifies as quality assurance/quality improvement or research. This distinction determines regulatory requirements, including whether your project requires Institutional Review Board (IRB) review. To learn more about how to categorize your project, please review the guide provided by WashU Human Research Protection Office.
We fulfill data requests using a number of data sources, including:
- Epic self-service tools (Slicer Dicer/Epic Reporting Workbench)
- Epic Clarity reporting server
- Event Reporting System
- Multicenter Perioperative Outcomes Group Data Registry
Please keep in mind that questions that are clinically simple may be complex from an informatics standpoint. Expect back and forth dialogue with members of the INQUIRES team to clarify your query. Some data elements are elusive and expect to make some compromises regarding what is available.
