We are extremely pleased to announce that Dr. Lukas Matern has accepted the role of an Anesthesiology Physician Leader for our Non-operating Room Anesthesia on the Barnes-Jewish Hospital Campus, with the focus on Radiology and ECT. In this important clinical leadership role, Dr. Matern will work closely with WUDA, WUSM procedural and BJH perioperative leaders on promoting safety, quality, and efficiency in all phases of care in these NORA locations. Together, they will improve workflows in the procedural, intraprocedural, and postprocedural spaces. Dr. Matern will further our efforts towards enhancing collaboration and teamwork and ensuring a nurturing and safe environment for all members of the healthcare team.
Dr. Matern earned his medical degree from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine. He completed an internship in Internal Medicine at the University of Chicago and his residency in Anesthesiology at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, where he also served as Chief Resident. Dr. Matern worked as a clinical fellow and instructor at Harvard Medical School, specializing in Anesthesia and Critical Care Medicine. He completed a fellowship in Critical Care Medicine at Mass Gen. Last year, Dr. Matern joined WashU Medicine as an Assistant Professor with appointments in the Critical Care and General Divisions.
