The Department of Anesthesiology at Washington University School of Medicine proudly hosted its 36th Annual C.R. Stephen Lecture on Friday, March 22, 2024, at the Eric P. Newman Education Center. This annual lecture honors the legacy of C. Ronald Stephen, MD, FFARCS, the first chairman of the department in 1971.
Washington University in St. Louis had the honor of hosting the Association of University Anesthesiologists (AUA) for its 70th Annual Meeting at the Charles F. Knight Executive Education & Conference Center on March 22-24. The 2024 AUA Annual Meeting brought together esteemed experts and scholars in academic anesthesiology marking this occasion as the AUA’s first university-affiliated meeting in over a decade.
Benjamin Sanofsky, MD, MS Ed, instructor in anesthesiology at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, was selected as the recipient of the Junior Faculty Pediatric Anesthesia Research Award by the Association of University Anesthesiologists (AUA) during the 2024 AUA Annual Meeting on March 22-23 in St. Louis.
A “Peloton” isn’t just a brand of exercise bike; it’s also a term for a group of cyclists in a race. They ride closely together, taking turns at the front to reduce wind resistance for each other and maintain a steady pace. This teamwork and communication optimize speed and efficiency. Considering the influence of group dynamics on individual well-being, it prompts reflection on the pelotons we belong to. By leveraging collective support, we enhance personal resilience, draw energy and skills from others, and collectively achieve greater progress and endurance.

The Women of WUDA (Washington University Department of Anesthesiology) hosted its second annual retreat on Saturday, March 9, at Holmes Lounge on the Danforth Campus. Over 100 women from the department gathered to connect and network, hear from women in medicine, and participate in wellness activities.
