Dr. Anwar Akhras joins the Department of Anesthesiology

Dr. Anwar Akhras has joined the Department of Anesthesiology at Washington University in St. Louis. He will have appointments in the Divisions of Critical Care Medicine and Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology.

Dr. Sunny Lou joins the Department of Anesthesiology

Dr. Sunny Lou joined the Department of Anesthesiology at Washington University in St. Louis on July 1, 2022. She will have an appointment in the Division of Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology where she will perform her clinical work, and she will have a research appointment in the Division of Clinical and Translational Research (DoCTR) with a joint appointment with the Institute for Informatics (I2) within Washington University School of Medicine.

Musleh appointed Critical Care Ultrasound Co-director

Amjad Musleh, MD

Amjad Musleh, MD, will serve as the critical care ultrasound co-director for the Anesthesiology Critical Care Medicine Division. He will develop and sustain the point-of-care Critical Care Ultrasound program within the division and across the medical campus.

Higo appointed as vice-chair for innovation

Omokhaye Higo, MD

Omokhaye Higo, MD, MBA, has been appointed as the inaugural Vice-Chair for Innovation for Washington University’s Department of Anesthesiology. Dr. Higo will lead innovative initiatives in the department by advancing the current perioperative telemedicine platform, with a view to consolidating the Anesthesiology Control Tower (ACT) and Recovery Control Tower (RCT).

Boland appointed as Christian Hospital ICU Co-Director

Dr. Matthew Boland has been appointed to serve as Christian Hospital ICU Co-Director. In his new role as Co-Director, he will partner with CHNE Director, Dr. Uche Ofoma, to ensure delivery of outstanding clinical care to our critically ill surgical and medical patients at Christian Hospital Northeast. 

Menelaos Karanikolas, MD, MPH, appointed POD 5 Leader

Dr. Menelaos Karanikolas has been appointed the Anesthesiology Leader in POD 5. He will work closely with the WUSM and BJH perioperative leaders in supporting clinical staff and promoting safety, quality, and efficiency in perioperative care.

Dan Fernandez, MD, appointed POD 2 Leader

Dan Fernandez, MD, has been appointed POD 2 Leader in the Department of Anesthesiology at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. Dr. Fernandez will be partnering with WUSM colleagues, BJH perioperative leadership, and frontline clinicians in promoting safety, quality, and efficiency of perioperative care in POD 2.
