Dr. Helga Komen appointed physician leader for POD 5
Dr. Helga Komen has accepted the role of an anesthesiology physician leader in POD 5 at Washington University in St. Louis School of Medicine.
Gregory appointed division chief of perioperative medicine
Stephen Gregory, MD, has been selected as the division chief of perioperative medicine in the Department of Anesthesiology. In his role as division chief, Gregory will develop educational programs, conduct innovative perioperative quality improvement programs, support perioperative research, and manage staff, faculty, and trainees within the perioperative medicine division.
$6.2 million grant to fund Center for Perioperative Mental Health (Links to an external site)
Clinicians and researchers at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis have received a four-year, $6.2 million grant from the National Institute of Mental Health to launch a center designed to help improve mental health in surgery patients, particularly older surgery patients. The center will conduct studies to identify and treat depression and anxiety in surgical patients. This new center is the first NIH-funded center of its kind in the United States.
New Division Administrator for Perioperative Medicine, Melissa Clary
Melissa will be responsible for providing business and operational leadership for the division, including strategic planning and financial and operations management, with an emphasis on the development of tele-health programs.
