Anne DeSchryver, JD, awarded the 2021 Dean’s Distinguished Service Award

Anne serves as the Director of Research Business Operations for the Department of Anesthesiology. A graduate of Washington University (English Literature, French, 2000) and Saint Louis University College of Law (JD 2004), she began her academic career in the office of Medical Alumni and Development Programs at Washington University, rising to the position of Senior Associate Director of Stewardship. Shifting her focus to research administration, she served as the Director of Research and Graduate Education and was an Adjunct Assistant Professor for the School of Public Health at Saint Louis University. She was then recruited to Washington University’s Department of Anesthesiology in 2013, where she led a consolidation and strategic reorganization of the research administrative organization in the department.

The Dean’s Distinguished Service Award is the highest form of staff recognition at the School of Medicine, meant to recognize outstanding achievement by a staff member who demonstrates exceptional commitment to the university, exceeding job responsibilities while creating a positive working environment and improving the community. Anyone who works with Anne would say that she exemplifies these qualities.

Anne has contributed to the success of the Department of Anesthesiology and the Medical School on many levels. In Anesthesiology, Anne has built a strong, cohesive team that oversees all aspects of research administration in the department, instilling a culture of collaborative service amongst them; this group is a shining example of what it truly means to work as a team. Under Anne’s leadership, the research administrative team has consistently risen to numerous challenges and provided outstanding service to all members of our department. She has created a culture that goes above and beyond “just a job.” Anne is committed to the success, wellbeing, and career development of every member of her organization, and indeed for our entire department. Anne has a genuine commitment to diversity, as evidenced by the makeup of her team, and her instrumental role in the launching of our summer research fellowship program for URM students. Anne also helped to develop and co-chairs the advisory board for the STAR program (Specialized Training for Administrators of Research), which provides training to help develop necessary skills for a successful career in research administration.

As you can see – Anne consistently works beyond what her job requires, striving to make our entire organization better. She is a truly deserving recipient of the Dean’s Distinguished Service Award. Please join us in congratulating her.
