Matthew S. Sanzalone, MD, Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology and Pain Management at WashU Medicine, has been named among Newsweek’s 2025 list of “America’s Leading Doctors – Pain Management.”
Developed in partnership with global data intelligence firm Statista, the list recognizes the nation’s most respected specialists based on procedure performance data, peer surveys, quality-of-care assessments, and board certification verification.
Sanzalone specializes in treating chronic pain conditions using advanced interventional therapies such as epidural injections, radiofrequency ablation, spinal cord stimulation, ultrasound-guided blocks, and vertebroplasty. He is committed to improving the quality of life for patients through interventional pain treatments tailored to individual needs.

Sanzalone earned his medical degree from Louisiana State University School of Medicine in Shreveport in 2015. He went on to complete his anesthesiology residency in 2019 and pain management fellowship in 2020, both at WashU Medicine in the Department of Anesthesiology.
