Memorial award established in honor of Sandy Hawes

In honor of Sandy Hawes, a beloved friend and dedicated member of the Department of Anesthesiology, the department has established the Sandy Hawes Memorial Award, an annual award recognizing department members who possess excellent communication skills, are supportive in nature, well-poised, dedicated, and go above and beyond the call of duty.

Herrera named inaugural associate vice chair for well-being

In this new Associate Vice Chair role, Ms. Herrera will work closely with the Vice Chair for Professional Development and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and will develop and implement innovative well-being programs in the department.

Lesley Rao, MD, named chief of pain management division

Lesley Rao, MD

Dr. Rao will lead the clinical and educational responsibilities of the Pain Management Division, serve as the clinical section chief of the Washington University Pain Center, and operate as the director of the Pain Management Center at Barnes-Jewish Hospital.

Allison Mitchell, MD, appointed Program Director for Residency Program

Allison Mitchell, MD

Dr. Mitchell will oversee the recruitment and training of a diverse and clinically excellent group of residents to become leaders in the field. She will continuously assess and improve our residency program and will be instrumental in the development of new initiatives focused on enhancing the training of our residents.

Meaghan Creed, PhD, honored with the 2021 Daniel X. Freedman Award

The Daniel X. Freedman Award is given for outstanding achievements in basic research by a Brain & Behavior Research Foundation Young Investigator and honors outstanding scientists working to advance the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of psychiatric illness.
