Erin Wood named Secretary for the Association of Anesthesiology Program Administrators and Educators (AAPAE)
Erin will be applying her detailed-driven skill set by developing a new institutional file structure for all anesthesiology training programs to utilize. She will also be collaborating with her peers throughout the country to establish best practices along with survival guides for others in similar career paths.
Menelaos Karanikolas, MD, MPH, appointed POD 5 Leader
Dr. Menelaos Karanikolas has been appointed the Anesthesiology Leader in POD 5. He will work closely with the WUSM and BJH perioperative leaders in supporting clinical staff and promoting safety, quality, and efficiency in perioperative care.
Dan Fernandez, MD, appointed POD 2 Leader
Dan Fernandez, MD, has been appointed POD 2 Leader in the Department of Anesthesiology at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. Dr. Fernandez will be partnering with WUSM colleagues, BJH perioperative leadership, and frontline clinicians in promoting safety, quality, and efficiency of perioperative care in POD 2.

Isabella Riordan, MD, Appointed as Interim Chief of the Progress West Hospital Division of Anesthesiology
Isabella Riordan, MD, has accepted the appointment to serve as Interim Chief of the Progress West Hospital Division of Anesthesiology. Dr. Riordan will also serve as the Director of Anesthesiology for the hospital and be involved with the Credentials Committee and Medical Executive Committee.
Lattanand appointed as Vice-Chair for Clinical Operations
Chak Lattanand, MD, MBA, has been appointed as a Vice-Chair for Clinical Operations for Washington University’s Department of Anesthesiology. Dr. Lattanand will provide crucial leadership, including managing the clinical business of the department, and providing expertise in the areas of financial clinical operations, strategic planning, and contract/affiliation negotiations and management.
Perioperative Blood Management Project selected as winner for the 2021 Team Award for Quality Improvement from BJC HealthCare
The Perioperative Blood Management Project—led by WashU anesthesiologists, Megan Dewey, MD, and Sunny Lou, MD, PhD—was selected as the winner for the 2021 Team Award for Quality Improvement from BJC HealthCare for its success in reducing blood product waste in the operating rooms.
