An announcement from Michael S. Avidan, MBBCh, FCASA, Dr. Seymour and Rose T. Brown Professor of Anesthesiology, Head of the Department of Anesthesiology.
It is my great privilege and pleasure to announce that Chak Lattanand, MD, MBA, has been appointed as a Vice-Chair for Clinical Operations for Washington University’s Department of Anesthesiology, effective January 1, 2022.
As Vice-Chair for Clinical Operations, Dr. Lattanand will be filling a key leadership role within the Department. Dr. Lattanand will provide crucial leadership, including managing the clinical business of the department, and providing expertise in the areas of financial clinical operations, strategic planning, and contract/affiliation negotiations and management. Dr. Lattanand, in collaboration with other clinical leaders, will plan, lead, organize, and direct the entire clinical enterprise within the Department of Anesthesiology, and will promote success in all four of our missions: clinical excellence, knowledge advancement, outstanding education, and professional development.
Dr. Lattanand joined our residency program in 2000 where he also served as a Chief Resident. After residency, he practiced in a community anesthesiology setting for three years, gaining valuable knowledge in clinical operations and practice management. In 2007, we recruited him to our faculty as Associate Professor for the purpose of establishing and leading our new Division at Progress West Hospital. Dr. Lattanand accepted the challenge with enthusiasm, and became the Director of Anesthesiology and Division Chief of Anesthesiology at Progress West Hospital, where he is a highly trusted leader and a key contributor to the growth of the department and the hospital.
In 2018, Dr. Lattanand graduated from Washington University Olin Business School’s Executive MBA program and was inducted into the honor society, Beta Sigma Gamma. During his tenure as a division chief, Dr. Lattanand has demonstrated outstanding leadership for the Anesthesiology Department by building the PWH division from the ground up, fostering a collaborative culture within PWH and the Department of Anesthesiology more broadly, navigating successfully a multitude of challenges, and stepping up as an institutional leader during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Please join me in congratulating Dr. Lattanand on his appointment to this key leadership role in our department!
