We are pleased to announce that, following a competitive process, Dr. Matthew Boland has been appointed to serve as Christian Hospital ICU Co-Director. In his new role as Co-Director, he will partner with CHNE Director, Dr. Uche Ofoma, to ensure delivery of outstanding clinical care to our critically ill surgical and medical patients at Christian Hospital Northeast.
Dr. Boland obtained combined BA/MD degrees from University of Missouri-Kansas City, graduating in May 1996. After medical school, Dr. Boland attended the Naval Medical Center in San Diego, CA where he completed both his Internship and Residency in Internal Medicine. In 2001, Dr. Boland continued at the Naval Medical Center to pursue a Pulmonary/Critical Care Medicine fellowship in which he graduated from in June 2004. Continuing his military service at the Naval Medical Center, Dr. Boland joined the Pulmonary/ Critical Care Medicine staff until 2007, during which he was awarded Staff Teacher of the Year. In August 2020, he joined us from Mercy Hospital where he was a Critical Care Medicine Attending Physician. Dr. Boland has been working at community and telemedicine critical care units.
In his new role, Dr. Boland, alongside Dr. Ofoma, will work strategically with departmental, hospital, and BJC leadership to advance the overall success of the Washington University Department of Anesthesiology critical care group at Christian Hospital. They will collaborate with the critical care APP group to develop and administer unit-specific policies and procedures to ensure evidence-based and cost-effective clinical care, represent the critical care group on various hospital-level committees, participate in quality improvement and patient safety activities, and facilitate critical care educational opportunities among our trainees and APPs.
We are delighted he has accepted this new leadership position and look forward to working with him in his new role.
