Matthew Boland, MD, associate professor of anesthesiology and director of the Intensive Care Unit at Christian Hospital, received the Physician of the Year award at the 80s-themed Christian Hospital Foundation’s Gala on March 2, 2024. He was honored for his unwavering dedication to the ICU.
This distinction is bestowed by Christian Hospital upon a physician distinguished by their outstanding compassion and commitment, adoption of innovative technologies and therapies, and leadership characterized by effective collaboration with consultants to improve the health and well-being of our patients and community.

Boland earned a combined BA/MD degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. After medical school, he completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at the Naval Medical Center in San Diego. He remained there to complete a fellowship in pulmonary/critical care medicine, and subsequently joined its staff. Before joining the Department of Anesthesiology at WashU Medicine in 2020, he served as an attending in critical care medicine at Mercy Hospital in St. Louis.
