Elizabeth Schappe, a certified registered nurse anesthetist, has been named as one of the recipients of St. Louis Magazine’s 2023 Excellence in Nursing Awards in the advanced practice category. This prestigious award recognizes outstanding nurses who exhibit a remarkable level of dedication and proficiency in the nursing field.
As a CRNA team lead in Parkview Tower and an essential member of the obstetric anesthesia team, Schappe’s leadership skills and ability to remain calm under pressure are essential to providing high-quality care to patients, making her an invaluable member of the team and the healthcare community.
Schappe has demonstrated exceptional dedication by bringing her passion for wellness to the workplace. She recently received a Wellness Connection grant, which was used to purchase exercise equipment for departmental fitness rooms. These start-up funds helped equip the workout rooms with cardio machines, weights, yoga mats, foam rollers, and more. “We were able to organize two fitness areas that providers can use during long shifts. It’s important, because there’s a high rate of burnout in health care. Anything we can do to help our providers increase their well-being—both mentally and physically—helps patients receive better care,” says Schappe.
In addition to her dedication to wellness, Schappe is also a passionate advocate for sustainability. She is a member of the School of Medicine’s Climate Action Plan committee, which aims to reduce the medical center’s carbon footprint and promote environmentally responsible practices.
The Excellence in Nursing Awards is an annual event that recognizes nurses who have made significant contributions to the nursing profession. The advanced practice category, in which Schappe was recognized, honors nurses who have achieved an advanced level of knowledge and expertise in their field. This award is a well-deserved recognition of Schappe’s exceptional hard work and dedication to her profession.
St. Louis Magazine also recognized Tania Roberts, CRNA, as a finalist for the Excellence in Nursing Awards. Roberts is another member of our CRNA team who is committed to ensuring that patients receive the highest quality care possible. Her expertise, dedication, and willingness to go above and beyond make her an invaluable member of our team.
“We are incredibly proud of both Elizabeth and Tania,” says Director of CRNA Activities, David Eisenbath. “Their passion for the profession, along with their outstanding patient care, knowledge, and drive to help others around them make exceptional. Their recognition as finalists for the Excellence in Nursing Awards is well deserved.”
