We are excited to announce the Department of Anesthesiology’s inaugural Associate Vice-Chair for Faculty and Educator Development, Rachel Moquin, EdD. This appointment recognizes Dr. Moquin’s senior leadership role, her unmatched expertise, and her countless department contributions to date.
Dr. Moquin is currently an Assistant Professor at the School of Medicine and has been a faculty member in our department since 2020. Dr. Moquin holds a master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction and a doctoral degree in Education Leadership and Policy from Vanderbilt University. Since 2020, Dr. Moquin has been the Director of Learning and Development for our department. Dr. Moquin’s extensive background in education theory and practice, as well as her experience in creating and delivering impactful programs, put her in the ideal position to lead our efforts in providing world-class development for members of our community.
Within the Department of Anesthesiology, Dr. Moquin is already engaged in our faculty affairs efforts, including co-leading the department roll-out of the Interfolio platform, developing programs to support faculty advancement and promotion, and building content to support the updated and improved School of Medicine promotion guidelines for all our faculty. Dr. Moquin has a strong record of mentorship and serves as a T32 Mentor Champion and Chairs the Mentoring Committee for Women of WUDA.
Dr. Moquin is well-connected on the campus as a member of the School of Medicine’s Academy of Educators and as an Anesthesiology liaison to the Faculty Development Advisory Committee. Beyond our campus, Dr. Moquin is a regular contributor to the Society for Education in Anesthesia and is a past Fellow in the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) Leadership Education and Development Program. Dr. Moquin is also the Chair-elect for AAMC’s Central Group on Education Affairs Faculty Development Interest Group.
As the Associate Vice-Chair for Faculty and Educator Development, Dr. Moquin will work closely with the Vice-Chair for Education; the Associate Vice-Chair for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion; the Associate Vice-Chair for Wellbeing; and the Chair of the Department to develop and implement specialized programs throughout the department. These innovative programs will foster faculty, learner, staff, and educator development and promote a culture of learning and growth.
We cannot think of anybody more qualified and suited to this role than Dr. Moquin. We are incredibly fortunate to have a colleague of her caliber, aptitude, and dedication to take on this exciting new leadership role. We know that she will bring energy, creativity, and vision to the Associate Vice-Chair role, and that her impact will be substantial. In this inaugural leadership position, Dr. Moquin will play a crucial role in serving all members of our department.
