Office of Sustainability Recognizes Department of Anesthesiology

The Department of Anesthesiology received a bronze award from the Office of Sustainability during the 5th Annual Green Carpet Awards ceremony for the strides made to reduce our environmental footprint in the Peters Building in Barnes-Jewish Hospital (South) on the medical campus. This is the first Green Office award received by the department.

Championed by Helga Komen, MD, and assisted by Kelly Nessel and Lawrence Cross, and three WashU medical students: Caellagh Catley, Rebecca Lin, and Sarah Fracasso—these individuals evaluated our energy and materials that contribute to our waste stream and implemented more sustainable practices. Cross and Dr. Komen attended the recognition ceremony (for Green Offices that were certified during 2021 or participated in the program during the pandemic) on Thursday, October 27th, to accept the award on behalf of the department. We are grateful to these department members who exemplify leadership in a range of areas of sustainability. More information about the ceremony can be read on the Office of Sustainability’s website.

Elizabeth Schappe, CRNA, is also working on PVT application for a Green Offices Award. We look forward to others joining these sustainability champions as we continue to reduce the environmental footprint of our department and the community.
