Torres appointed program director at Goldfarb School of Nursing and director of CRNA education for the Department of Anesthesiology

Brian Torres, DNP, CRNA

We are delighted to share that Brian Torres, DNP, CRNA, has been appointed program director of the Nurse Anesthesia Program at Barnes-Jewish College Goldfarb School of Nursing. In addition, he will serve as director of CRNA education in the Department of Anesthesiology at WashU Medicine.

Brian brings exceptional clinical, academic, and leadership experience to this role. He will serve as program director four days a week at the College and continue one day a week in clinical practice as a CRNA with the Department of Anesthesiology.

A proud alumnus of Goldfarb, Brian earned his Master’s in Nurse Anesthesia from the College in 2012. He holds a Doctor of Nursing Practice from the University of Missouri–St. Louis and a BSN from the University of Missouri–Columbia. Since 2014, Brian has served as assistant program director and associate professor in the Nurse Anesthesia Program, demonstrating a deep commitment to academic excellence and student success.

Clinically, Brian specializes in cardiothoracic anesthesia and is also involved in a wide range of OR procedures. He is one of the investigators on the 13,000-patient multicenter THRIVE trial, which compares total intravenous anesthesia with inhaled anesthesia. He has contributed to leading publications, including The New England Journal of Medicine, Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), Anesthesia & Analgesia, and the International Student Journal of Nurse Anesthesia, where he also serves as a section reviewer. He authored a chapter on arrhythmias in the textbook Intensive Care: An Illustrated Colour Text.

Brian’s outstanding work has been recognized with numerous honors, including the St. Louis Magazine Excellence in Nursing Award, the Award for Excellence in Clinical Teaching, CRNA of the Quarter, Dean’s Service Award, and the BJH Caring Spirit Award, among others.
