Ben Fiori, RN, senior manager of clinical trials and operations, has been selected to receive the 2025 WashU Medicine Research Support Distinguished Honors Award. This prestigious award recognizes an employee who demonstrates exceptional performance, outstanding leadership, and superior quality of service in support of the medical school’s research mission. A diverse committee of WashU Medicine staff carefully reviewed all nominations for this award, which recognizes contributions to both Basic Science and Clinical research support.

Fiori has been a vital member of the Division of Clinical and Translational Research (DoCTR) since joining the Department of Anesthesiology in May 2019. Over the years, he has held several roles, progressing from research nurse coordinator to nurse manager, and currently serves as senior manager of clinical trials and operations, demonstrating consistent excellence in clinical trial leadership, team development, and operational strategy. Fiori brings a unique and valuable skill set to the team, with extensive experience in managing clinical operations both in academia and for contract research organizations. His work has spanned early-phase bioequivalence and bioavailability studies, as well as Phase I–III drug and device trials across diverse areas such as oncology, surgery, cardiology, and anesthesiology. He currently oversees a team of approximately 50 research staff and leads initiatives related to clinical trial feasibility, staffing, and protocol execution.

“Ben embodies the values and excellence we strive for across WashU Medicine. His leadership, dedication, and collaborative spirit have not only elevated clinical research operations but also inspired those around him,” said Anne DeSchryver, JD, executive director of business affairs. “We’re incredibly proud to see him receive this well-deserved honor.”

Fiori earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Goldfarb School of Nursing at Barnes-Jewish College. He is also a Certified Clinical Research Professional (CCRP).

Fiori will receive the award at the 2025 Staff Awards Ceremony on June 5, 2025, at the Eric P. Newman Education Center (EPNEC). He will be honored with an engraved glass award and special recognition in The Source. Please join us in congratulating him on this outstanding achievement!
