Amjad Musleh, MD, associate professor in the Departments of Anesthesiology and Emergency Medicine at WashU Medicine, has been nominated by medical students for the 2025 Humanism in Medicine Award, presented annually by the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC). The award honors medical school faculty who exemplify the qualities of a caring and compassionate mentor, serving as role models in the teaching and advising of students.
Musleh is widely recognized for his unwavering commitment to clinical excellence and dedication to medical education. A gifted educator, he has demonstrated a deep passion for teaching learners at all levels—from medical students and residents to fellows, advanced practice practitioners, and faculty colleagues. Whether on ICU rounds or in the Emergency Department, Musleh prioritizes bedside teaching, offering his learners real-time insight into clinical decision-making, patient communication, and compassionate care.
His contributions to education have earned him numerous accolades, including the Golden Stethoscope Award for Excellence in Clinical Bedside Teaching from the Department of Emergency Medicine Residency Program and the Golden Apple Award for Excellence in Didactic Teaching. In recognition of his mentorship and teaching excellence, he was also selected to serve as a Gateway Curriculum Coach at WashU Medicine, helping guide medical students through their educational journey and is now also currently serving as the director of the Coaching Program.
Reflecting on the nomination, Musleh shared, “It’s a tremendous honor to be recognized in this way—especially by the students. I’m deeply humbled by their recognition and truly at a loss for words to express my gratitude.”
The Distinguished Service Teaching Awards Ceremony, held on April 15 and hosted by students and administration, recognized Musleh and his fellow teaching faculty for their outstanding contributions to medical education.
This nomination highlights Musleh’s impact on future physicians and his embodiment of the values at the heart of the Humanism in Medicine Award.
